Typo on the cover

Check out this blog entry from EQMM:

“The Mistake on the Cover of EQMM #1” (by Arthur Vidro)

I actually think I’ve solved this, mostly because I once made the same mistake myself and a sharp-eyed mystery reader saved me from perpetuating it.  See what you can do.  I’ve submitted my entry.

It’s a little bit of a gyp, isn’t it, as the framing story implies it’s possible to spot the error without special knowledge (e.g. Ellery Queen’s Mytsery Magazine), whereas in fact the 10 minutes given would be filed with the students going “Is it this? Or this? Or this?” until they get told “Yup, that’s it”. There’s probably still a salutory lesson in there somewhere, but I’m not sure what it is…

LOL the framing story implies that level of special knowledge in that all of the characters are named after various characters in the EQ canon. But as many people might know this as would know without looking it up how to spell, say, Fulton Oursler.
So I do agree with you, it’s a bit obscure. But it was kind of interesting to know that there actually WAS a typo on the cover of EQMM V1#1.

Greer, I don’t see it! But I was proud of knowing who the students were.

Um, that was “grrrr.” Darn auto-correct.
